Piano Theory
An understanding of music theory enables piano students to see the harmonic patterns created by the composer, and as a result learn their parts more quickly and accurately. It also leads to a depth of understanding which is reflected in the emotional impact of the music. Since the keyboard is a very visual instrument, and since pianists already read in two clefs, pianists tend to learn music theory at a faster pace than other music students. This course is designed to make the most of those advantages.
This class is taught by Dan Loschen, a pianist himself and head of the Music Theory department. This class meets 5:30-6:15 on Mondays.
