Bridge: Cello Sonata
Debussy: Violin Sonata
Ravel: Piano Trio
Haldan Martinson, violin; Ron Lowry, cello; Lois Shapiro, piano
In celebration of the Centennial anniversary of the armistice that ended WWI, we offer a program featuring music and poetry written during, and influenced by that cataclysmic time. Debussy, Bridge, and Ravel were all profoundly impacted by World War I and composed music as a way of speaking out against the horror, and in order to give voice to their need for spiritual sustenance at a time when their personal as well as nationalistic identities were threatened.
